Although I typically only post my portrait work (I know, shame on me), I also photograph events. Events are great because everyone is always so happy and friendly and I get to capture them in their element, having fun with their friends and families. Compass Mortgage hired me to photograph an event they sponsored for one of their Senior Loan Officers, Todd Gosden and Alice Chin from Keller Williams Realty Infinity.
From what I understand, Alice was a Coldwell Banker Presidents Club member a few years back. She became good friends with the other members but eventually, as the years passed, they went their separate ways within the industry. Well, like most of us, we find ourselves telling people we don’t see every day, “we all need to get together” or “I miss you, let’s meet up”. Well, Alice and her team made it happen.
Alice and her friends met at The Clubhouse in Oakbrook. That was my first time there and certainly not my last! I nibbled on some of their appetizers and all of it was yummy! The staff was super friendly and the restaurant itself was impressive.
I don’t think all photographers do this when shooting an event, but I like to talk to the guests. Especially when they are as outgoing as this crew. Ok, now, I don’t try to be nosey, but I have to walk around and sometimes I hear parts of their conversations. I won’t mention any of them in detail as stated in our photographer/party-goer confidentiality agreement, haha, but I will say that this group really seemed to be genuine in their admiration and respect for one another.
They caught up on each other’s families and what they have been up to since the last time they spoke. What really warmed my heart is that instead of viewing each other as “the competition” and not share their ideas, plans or accomplishments, they celebrated all of that! I heard things like, “that’s a great idea”, “I’m proud of you”, and plenty of “I’m so happy for you”. Seriously, I was in a room filled with amazing people.
In the few years since I have started my business, I realize the importance of partnerships. This event was a great example of strong relationships within companies that are different but both serve the same type of client. Todd and Alice get it! It is better to collaborate and grow together with like-minded individuals/companies who hold the same standard. It’s better for them, the company they represent and the client. It’s a win/win. (Or would that be a win/win/win?) If you were at the event, it was so fun to meet you all.
