Marmion Lacrosse Team vs O’Fallon High School
Sticks & Stones Lacrosse Tournament
One of my 2017 seniors, Rene Gomez, plays midfield in the varsity lacrosse team for Marmion Academy in Aurora. This past Saturday, they had a tournament in West Chicago called the Sticks & Stones tournament and with the weather as beautiful as it was, I decided to attend and cheer them on. I like getting to know my reps because ultimately, I want them to be an extension to my family.
I was able to catch most of the last game and it was so much fun to watch. My kids played football, soccer and/or rugby for years and being at the park and listening to people cheering (or yelling), whistles blowing, and the comradery from the parents and team brought back so many memories. I miss it. This however, was my first lacrosse game. It’s an exciting sport! I was not expecting them to hit each other with the paddles. Hahaha – I had to look that up and found that the correct word is “crosse” or “lacrosse stick”.
As I was getting my camera together, I unfortunately missed Rene score for his team (just my luck!) but I was able to get some pretty cool shots of him and his teammates throughout the rest of the game. I’ll just have to go back to get some of Rene scoring multiple homeruns. Hahaha – I joke! I know they are called touchdowns.
I am happy to report that Marmion won the tournament by placing first and my #vapmodel, Rene, scored THREE GOALS! Congratulations to the players and we can’t forget Coach Kevin Griffin, Coach Randy Clark and Coach Rich Ford. I have another #vapsenior who plays for Downers Grove South High School female lacrosse team and will definitely catch a couple of her games before the season ends. So exciting! I truly love my job. What a privilege it is to be a part of these kid’s lives.
